Appreciate The Seasons On Ohio Bike Trails

Ohio is a wonderful place to go cycling because of its diverse terrain. There you will find anything from flat grasslands, to rolling hills, and rugged trails. The beautiful seasons in this state provide a gorgeous setting for bikers with leaves turning vivid colors in the fall and flowers coming to life in the spring. Below are some biking trails that you can check out in Ohio.

The Wayne National Forest near Columbus is a biker’s dream come true. There are so many trails to choose from, you can ride all weekend and never cover your tracks. There are trails here for all skill levels as well. Although there are no designated mountain biking trails, mountain bikes are allowed on off-road trails and even some hiking trails. In addition, there are many paved roads suitable for biking. A permit and fee is required. The funds go towards maintaining the trails for everyone to enjoy.

The Little Miami Scenic trail is the perfect place for families and beginners. This twenty-six mile loop trail is close to Loveland and its terrain is a mix of hills and flatland that is great for all riders. The trail goes around the Little Miami River and through the forest. The trail is shared with horseback riders, skaters, and hikers.

Many local bikers frequent alpine Valley close to Chardon because this is one of the hardest trails in the region. Steep climbs, dirt, rocks, roots, and rapid descents are just some of the challenges you will encounter when on this trail. There is a mix of rocky trails and grassy hills because this area also serves as a ski resort during the winter season. These trails are recommended to bikers with intermediate skills because the climbs are hard and the descents that follow are rather steep as well.

The Preble County Trail is a sweet ride over rolling hills that is a thirty-mile loop around Preble County. Here you will ride along serene country roads that wind through the countryside and cross-historical bridges and past woods and farmlands. Autumn is a wonderful time to bike in Preble County when the leaves are changing colors and the countryside looks like an oil painting with an old covered bridge in the backdrop.

Mickey’s Mountain in Hopedale Ohio is a great trail for intermediate to experienced bikers. This five-mile loop trail has a double track, dirt access road, and part single-track with some challenging climbs and zooming descents. The course is technical, gives you quite a bumpy ride, and crosses creeks too. Mickey’s Mountain holds several bike races and you must ask to enter that area on a day when races are not happening.

The Ohio and Erie Canal Trail is close to Cleveland. This trail is 40 miles long and it goes along the old Ohio and Erie Canal in the middle of Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. This trail is recommended for both families and beginners because it is gravel and the terrain is flat. This is a fun ride that takes you through beautiful forests, meadows and past cornfields. This trail can explored during all seasons of the year.

Ohio is a blend of populous cities and unspoiled countryside beauty. This makes it a great place to live the city life yet have easy access to the fun of biking no matter what part of the state you live in.
