Advice About Opportunities At Auto Auctions
If you have an old clunker or are in the market for a new car for any reason you have more options that a local dealer. In your area there are usually sever local car auctions that are taking place. These auctions are cars that are being sold due to public auctions, government seizures or many other reasons and you can get a great deal.
The first two, Public and Government auctions, are generally open to anyone and work very much the same. An auction location can be found by looking in the newspaper, on the internet or in the local phone book. Upon arriving at the auction site, typically, you will need to register and will receive an auction number. After that is done you are free to roam about the cars that will go on the block that day. The cars will have a number on them.
Choose a list of cars and write down their block number if you find something you are interested in. Check them out under the hood, inside and out. Clock their mileage and color as well and take notes. You do this on your own without any pressure from anyone.
When you go to the arena they will bring the cars out one by one and “Start the bidding.” There will be an auctioneer near the car. He will give a brief description of the vehicle and then he will pick a starting price. His job is to get as much money as possible for each vehicle.
A government auction is pretty much the same except the vehicles are repossessions. They can be found to be sold for much less money as they need to get rid of them. Many have very low mileage and many times nearly brand new. You will buy them as is so check them out first before the bidding.
Another type of auction is an internet auction which is pretty much self explanatory. You do not go anywhere and bid from your computer. You cannot see the car as well though there are cameras. These usually have high end collector cars or exotic ones.
The bottom line when going to an auction, no matter what type, is to have a style of car in mind and a price cap that you want to spend. If the bidding on your first choice exceeds your price cap then just stop bidding and wait for your second or third pick to come up on the block. If you can avoid the prompting of the auctioneer and stick to you price cap you can most likely drive home with a good vehicle at a very good price.
